Mangaka: Hiro Mashima Title: The Ultimate Magic World Rating: 7/10
Synopsis: This week’s slightly psychotic chapter of Fairy Tail was a bit better than last week’s travesty. However, it did leave me a tad disturbed. We start off with Wendy (she’s so adorable that I forgive her for being weak, plus, an arc or so ago she was fairly badass while fighting with Gajeel and Nastu, and her healing powers are cool) trying her best to cure Makarov and Natsu, but it’s obvious that the poor girl is injured and exerting herself. Ganbatte Wendy-chan! Then we turn back to the Ultear and Zeref confrontation. Ultear, being her normal crazy insane self (or is it insane crazy?) is trembling with anticipation and excitement to the point of tears (can anyone say psycho stalker lady?) However Zeref isn’t nearly as happy to see her and demands to know what she desires of him (if it’s his power). Demented Ultear responds “Your entire existence, My Lord” (because that is not creepy at all).
Zeref is (rightfully so) not flattered but extremely pissed (I’d be freaked out, personally) and says he has no intention of participating in a war or harming people (I really wonder what happened to this man. I mean isn’t he supposed to be pure evil? I mean aside from the dark power killing everything in its path against his will, he seems like a pretty nice guy. Warped, but nice.) Ultear seems shocked/afraid at the extent of Zeref’s wrath (by the way his angry face is kinda hot). There is another skip in location and we go to where Evergreen and Elfman are fighting Rustyrose. Although the fight is serious and Elfman and Evergreen are having their behinds handed to them, there is quite a bit of comedic banter that made me chuckle. (Rustyrose: When those who are in love disagree… Elfman and Evergreen: WE ARE NOT IN LOVE!!! = lol)
Also Rustyrose has quite the combination of interesting powers. (You should seriously check it out). But sadly, he ruined his momentary epicness and went on a deranged rant that rivaled Ultear’s insanity. The goal of Grimoire Heart, we discover, is to completely annihilate all those who can’t use magic, or whose magic are weak, creating the Ulimate Magic World, a world of chaos and darkness. To achieve this, they need Zeref’s power. (At this point everyone in Fairy Tail is staring at their respective opponents like “these bitches be craaaazzy, yo”). We then go back to Zeref’s and Ultear’s location where we find that they have apparently had a huge fight. The winner of this bout, who lets out a weird, psycho banshee-type scream?…(READ THE CHAPTER!)
Best Character: This one is hard. I’m going to say Zeref (up to a certain point, you’ll see what I mean when you read) and Evergreen and Elfman. They were hilarious like I said.
Worst Character: Ultear…and actually the whole of Grimoire Heart. I swear they need to check into some magic mental hospital. Ultear alone is nuttier than a fruitcake never mind their collective insanity. 😐 Their obsession with Zeref is also disturbing, I mean, is that some kind of fetish?
Likes: Angry Zeref, Cute Wendy trying her best to help everyone, Elfman and Evergreen vs Rustyrose fight. Rustyrose is a pretty cool nemesis actually, and like I said, he has an interesting combination of powers. He was really cool before the psycho rant, I could’ve liked him. Who knows? Maybe I still will. Overall, the chapter was pretty good, I was quite pleased. Definitely an upgrade from last week and the plot is moving along steadily again.
Dislikes: I really have very little love for Ultear. It’s really unhealthy because I’m not quite sure why I hold such disgust for her. Maybe it’s because her mother, Ul, was so epic/sexy and she’s just…crazy. Also, as mentioned before, I’m not really feeling Grimoire Heart. I mean, don’t get me wrong. They are excellent enemies, and are just the kind of challenge that Fairy Tail needs to up their power/camaraderie once more, but the entire guild is filled with mad men, and they have serious character issues.
So I guess in a sense it’s not that I dislike them because they suck and do nothing for the story and don’t develop the plot but rather that I dislike them because they have some hardcore personality flaws. I wouldn’t be friends with any of them so far, except for maybe Zancrow (I can’t judge those that we haven’t seen a lot of though like Caprico, Kain Hikaru and Meredy). Other than that, I really didn’t have a problem with the chapter. I do wish they’d up the fighting and get to the climax of all this. I also wish that Hiro-chan would stop being a tease and just let us all know what’s going on with Zeref once and for all. It’s been near 221 chapters coming. It’s time to clue us in.
On a side note, aside from all the mystery and drama with Zeref he is quite cute. What can I say? I tend to like the dark and disturbed (and even slightly evil types) XD
