Mangaka: Hiro Mashima Title: Lucy Fire Rating: 8/10
Synopsis: Let us pause for a moment of silence for this glorious, most wonderful, most worshipped coverpage…we’ll get back to it in Random Rant Time 😐
This week we open with the official 2 vs 2 fight with Natsu and Lucy (and Happy, lol, who we always forget) vs Ultear and Kain Hikaru. It starts with the classic staredown + bantering, with Kain insisting that he can take care of the two by himself. Taking his word, Ultear wanders off (THANK GOD! She would’ve ruined the entire chapter -_-) Kain then starts off the fight in proper, delivering a massive blow to Natsu, straight to the face (payback for what happened last chapter I presume). Lucy tries to jump in to help but shock! Kain has gotten his hands on her hair and is now controlling her with the straw doll! After a page of lols as Kain forces her to do funny poses, he makes her attack Natsu.
Natsu, however, manages to grab her into a lock hold (poor Kain thought they were getting hot and heavy on him. LOL) to keep her still while Happy steals the doll from Kain. Of course Happy coudln’t resist causing mischief and made Lucy clutch Natsu to her Valley of the Goddess, much to everyone’s amusement. We quickly move back to more serious ground though as Kain attacks Natsu once more, sending him flying into a mountain, rock, hill thing. Natsu is then trapped from the rubble that falls on top of him, leaving Lucy and Happy to fight Kain…alone! Oh noes! To make matters even worse, Lame Lucy realises, as she tries to summon Virgo, that she is out of magical power…dun dun duuunnnnn. Is this the end!
It sure seems so as Kain begins to beat the blonde out of her (unfortunately he can’t seem to beat out the boobs…they are too big). Natsu begs Lucy to run, but Lucy valiantly refuses, saying she rather be with everyone (and die) than run away by herself. Just as all hope is lost, Natsu gets a BRILLIANT idea (I swear to you I saw a manic glint in his eye). He picks up the READ THE CHAPTER!!!! buahhahhahaha and unleashes his new, ultimate, epic move…LUCYYYY FIIIYAAAHH (see: fire)
Best Character: I loved everyone in this chapter (especially since Ultear didn’t really make an appearance). Kain was just funny. Lucy was hilarious, especially when everyone was manipulating her. Happy just makes me…well..happy! and Natsu…lol. Is a nutcase. I’m not sure how his brain works. Too funny.
Worst Character: Can’t complain about a person! Yay!
Likes: Natsu, Lucy, Happy and Kain.
Dislikes: Not much that I can complain about. This chapter is as close to perfection as it can get. The only thing lacking was maybe a bit of epicness and raw, pure, awesome emotion. But it wasn’t one of those chapters and I don’t think it was meant to be (aside from that part where Lucy refused to run away by herself). So as far as hilarious battles and easy going chapters go, you can’t get any better than this.
More Chapter Ratings:
§eraph: 8.5/10 – A great Fairy Tail chapter! I really had fun reading it. Everyone did spectacularly well. I just re-read it and noticed Natsu grabbing Lucy’s batty (see: bottom lool) That poor girl should just decide to walk around naked. Clothes don’t like her. Then again, I think I prefer only seeing Gray sans vêtements xD Good job Hiro-chan! Can we join the FT Guild now?
Random Rant Time: As said before, this chapter is pretty much perfect in every way. There was seriously nothing to complain about. The fight was amazingly well done, it was ridiculously funny and everything just progressed in the most amazing way. I don’t know how he does it. Even without being like epic and filled with that pure, raw, awesome emotion that I was talking about….you know the kind of feeling don’t you? Like when they were fighting Phantom Lord, or even Oración Seis, where everything was on this higher level and you feel like if you can’t breathe as you desperately read? And everyone was just like WE ARE FAIRY TAIL! We’ll do anything for this guild? Another example would be when Erza was fighting Gerard at the tower, and Natsu and her had that moment, those kind of battles. So yeah, even without those high strung feelings it is easily one of the best chapters I’ve read.
So, in an effort not to give away the ending of the chapter which is HILARIOUS, so I want to keep it a secret…I shall dedicate this Random Rant Time to the cover page **the heavens open, angels weep as they play their harps in wonderful symphony, while god himself sings** Actually, I just wanted to talk about the cover page and rant about Erza-sama…but you already knew that. hehehe. So, when this chapter was first put up and I saw the cover page..my heart stopped. No seriously. I was clinically dead. for a good 10 minutes. I’m not sure how my brain is still functioning. I should be at least brain dead from the lack of oxygen. It was so bad (and you can ask §eraph about this) I was unable to read the chapter for about 4 hours after it came out. All I could do, was stare at the sheer awesomeness of Erza-sama’s body. I WANT HER! She is too adorable, too cute, too sexy. I just…want her. Please? I don’t think I’m asking for much. Her character is just perfect in every way. I mean…just…look at her!
And now, I’m also going through a midlife crisis. Recently, while watching AMVs etc, I stumbled across someone who referred to this character (that had caught my eye in the AMV) as being Erza-ish, that is, possessing Erza-like qualities, who in general reminded the person of Erza. Of course, I zoomed in on this like a hawk. Anyone who is like my great Erza-sama I am determined to find out about and judge for myself. Great, right? The problem? The character is from High School of the Dead and if there is one genre that I despise, it is horror, and if there is one horror being, creature thing that I absolutely loathe, well..zombies take that award. You see my problem? I am totally torn now. But I’m probably going to read it anyway. My love for Erza-sama is greater than my hatred of zombies and horror.
