Mangaka: Masashi Kishimoto Title: Iruka’s Persuasion Rating: 8/10
Synopsis: Hands up if you were wondering where Iruka was all this time. …Nobody? Wow. Anyway, this week’s Naruto continues with Naruto’s sudden confrontation with his former teacher and first true friend: Iruka. Naruto still wants out, so Iruka feeds him an on-the-spot, totally made up story about animals with the Nine Tails’ chakra, which Naruto’s chakra would react negatively to. Right. Naruto calls his bluff and forces his way out in sage mode, but a Nara-Clan ninja catches him with the Shadow Mimic jutsu just outside the waterfall.
Now since being in sage mode makes Naruto a Jedi, and he is one with the universe and such, he somehow senses what is going on all over the island, i.e. : the war. Shocked, he questions his seniors about it and surprisingly, Iruka just lays it out flat for him this time. Madara is attacking the joint ninja forces simply to acquire Naruto and Killer Bee. This fires up Naruto more, and he’s ready to take off again when Iruka knocks him clean outta sage mode by telling Naruto that he considers him a little brother. Aww. Iruka then catches Naruto in a barrier jutsu while giving him back his forehead protector [which Naruto lost in the earlier scuffle], but Naruto breaks out with no problem using the Nine Tails chakra and takes off.
While putting on the forehead protector, Naruto finds a note from Iruka behind the leaf symbol which basically explains his actions and tells Naruto to come back alive… Positive thinking, that :-P.
Best Character: Naruto, for not being an idiot and believing Iruka’s story, and for generally getting things moving again.
Worst Character: Hmm… Don’t have one.
Likes: Now you may look at the review, and the score and wonder, wtf? Seems like nothing big happened… Let me explain. This chapter, in some weird way… felt… like the old chapters. Like when Naruto was still really good. True not much happened, but something about it, maybe the mood, maybe how it was written just seemed to bring out the old flavor. In my opinion of course. Someone else may think differently, but this was a really good chapter to me and I’m looking forward to next week.
Dislikes: Can’t think of any atm.
More Chapter Ratings:
§eraph: 7.5/10 – I was so pleased with the general flow of this chapter. I missed Uzumaki Naruto soooo much. I’m sure we all missed him to death. As Stiggles says below, the mood was just right. Everything just felt….right. I hope to God that the next chapter has the same familiar Naruto feel to it. Right now, I think it’s better to just get to the point a bit faster (while maintaining a satisfying sense of intensity which will cause us to completely lose ourselves in the chapter) and move on. To get the best example of that (that I can think of right now) check out the last few chapters of Fairy Tail (though I suppose it’s harder for Naruto because it’s not as fresh and it’s at a crucial time in it’s mainstream life right now *sigh) Let’s cross our fingers and hope for the best! Ganbatte Kishimoto-san! Fight-o!
mu§e: 7/10 – It was aight. I mean, technically it was a really good chapter, the best I’ve seen in eons. However, it just took so long to arrive to this point, and we all knew that it was coming down to this. Moreover, we all know Naruto’s not as stupid as we’d like to think he is, yet they had him believing all these lame lies and shiz, that made absolutely no sense and just ended up wasting a bunch of valuable time. And then the whole letter thing? Cheesy. Overdone. *puke*. And Iruka trying to stop him? Yeah…right…whatever. It just seemed very unrealistic and cliché and too mushy to me. But…like I said…better than what I’ve seen in a while. Let’s see if we get back some old school momentum.
Not-so-Random Question: What ever happened to the whole “Sit totally still and become one with nature” thing to enter sage mode? Naruto seems to do it on a whim now.
