Mangaka: Hiro Mashima Title: The One Thing I Couldn’t Say Rating: 8.5/10
Synospis: Wow. Where to begin? **takes a deep breath**.
We are continuing from where we left off last week with Cana at Master Mavis’ grave which is glowing with a strange light. Cana tries to touch it but gets slapped on the wrist (really, she just got electrocuted) in reprimand. Writing appears which says that the grave holds one of the three great Fairy Magics, Fairy Glitter. There’s a scene switch back to Natsu et al and Bluenote’s location. Turns out Bluenote’s trying to get his hand on the Glitter that sparkles Fairyly. Natsu has no idea what he’s talking about, Bluenote attacks him with epic gravity power some more. Happy, Lucy, Wendy all are in despair because they know Bluenote is too strong for ’em. Bluenote threatens to “ask” Makarov (who’s still out of it) about the location of the grave. Natsu dares Bluenote to try and harm Makarov…
We switch back to Cana who is screaming that she couldn’t care less about powerful Fairy magic. What she wants is to pass the test, and screams for Makarov. We go into a flashback about Cana’s life from this point finding out why she was so desperate to pass. Her mother had died and she was to live with her father, which made her end up in Fairy Tail. Turns out her father is….READ THE CHAPTER (trust me, you’re not gonna believe it) and she wants to pass the S-Class test to prove herself worthy of being acknowledged by him as his daughter…so she can actually TELL him that she’s his daughter. We come out of her trip down memory lane when her special Lucy card (which lets her know that Lucy is in trouble) glows. She now regains her senses and realises she’s been working toward the wrong thing all along. (Good girl). She totally breaks down, saying she never meant to betray her nakama (see: comrades) and then throws away all that she was previously fighting for, begging Master Mavis to grant her the power to save her friends. (Page 17, bottom panel…cutest, sweetest, most heartwarming thing EVER). Mavis forgives her and bestows the power of the Glittering Fairy (lol, I should really stop changing the name of the magic) upon her. Cana then rushes to find her friends! (Can’t wait for this fight!)
Best Character: Cana hands down! I’m so GLAD she came to her senses. And like I said, when she declared her love for the guild, with tears in her eyes, MY eyes got kinda foggy. Also, now that I understand the father drama, I really kinda sympathize with her. Still inexcusable that she ran off but…I understand why she was so desperate and I loved, LOVED the sudden bomb. No one drops ’em like Hiro. I didn’t see that coming -_- at ALL. If you did, well hats off to you Detective Conan.
Worst Character: No one to complain about here. I’m totally loving the villain in Bluenote…though he better not touch my Master Makarov…’cause then it’s ON!
Likes: Cana’s back story/desperation. Her coming to her senses like I said. The utter surprise and shock as to who her father is :|. I dunno, I just felt like the Cana drama was done very realistically. She’s neither the villain nor the hero. And quite frankly, part of me is glad that she got the Glitter of Fairies (okay, I swear I’ll stop) because we rarely see other characters highlighted to this extent. Also, it’ll give her a chance to make amends. I’m really anxious to see how she’ll use it. I hope she has a really powerful/epic fight. Don’t let me down Hiro! I also liked Master Mavis being epic even when dead. He totally ruled in his own way from beyond the grave. This chapter was really beautiful. The high strung emotion, the love, the desperation…Hiro played it off PERFECTLY! All hail Mashima-sama! Also, how cute is that cover page? d’awww.
Dislikes: Wow…I can’t think of anything. Like seriously. Maybe I should go back and give this chapter a 9?
More Chapter Ratings:
§eraph: 8.5/10 – Hiro Mashima is doing an excellent job of releasing unbelievably awesome chapters for weeks on end. This chapter was just….wow. For all those who do not read Fairy Tail, you are seriously missing out. SERIOUSLY…
Random Rant Time: This one is about…CANA! Admittedly, although she’s not a super major character, Cana has always held a rather special place in my heart. Maybe it’s our mutual love of alcohol. I think it was when Hiro-chan made that cover page (and for the LIFE of me I can’t remember which chapter) with her on it and she was quoted saying “A man who tastes better than alcohol?…such a thing doesn’t exist”…from that time on our fates were sealed together. I knew that I would love her unconditionally. This was further emphasized (again I can’t remember the chapter) when she claimed that her most difficult mission was when she was in the desert and she said “For a second there, I thought I was going to die in that desert because there was no alcoholic drinks.” Cana…I know how you feel. It also doesn’t help that she’s super hot XD. You know I love my hot manga/anime women. That being said, I was pretty upset when she turned against Lucy and the guild, as you may have noticed in previous posts…so you can see how ecstatic I am now that I know her reasons and that she’s back on track again….Cheers to you Cana, I lift a wine glass in your honour (since I was gonna have a drink anyway 😛
Bonus pic!! Sorry, but I just HAVE to do it and I HAVE to say: I LOVE it when manga/anime women, ESPECIALLY the Fairy Tail women get angry! Hiro-chan just draws their outrage and fury soo darn well. It gives me goosebumps. The one time I saw Cana angry (sorry this is from the anime) I just really…was in awe. (This is from when they were fighting against Laxus going all weird and Lluvia sacrificed herself so that she wouldn’t have to fight Cana due to Fried’s runes). I hope to see more pissed off Cana during her fight with Bluenote or whomever she’ll be fighting. It will please me.
