Mangaka: Hiro Mashima Title: At One Time Rating: 8.5/10
Synopsis: Continuing from last week, we witness the fall of Azuma to Erza-sama’s mighty blade. Azuma’s body begins turning into a tree from overusing his lost magic, but as promised he returns everyone’s magic power. Erza and Azuma have a little girlfriend chat about Gerard (not really but it’s funnier if you think of it that way :P) and, Erza manages to find out why Grimoire Heart wants Zeref so badly; they are searching for the original source of magic, the very first magic that ever existed in the world. Erza tries to question him more but he finally completely becomes part of the flora of Tenrou Island.
With all the Fairy Tail members fully charged up once more, they launch a final counter attack against their opponents. We finally get back (in some nice detail) to Gildarts’ and Bluenote’s (who practically shit his pants after all his big talk…ahh, so funny) fight. As a last desperate attempt, Bluenote uses an insanely powerful move, “Black Hole” in an attempt to completely crush Gildarts, however Gildarts counter attacks with a super powerful, epic, on steroids kinda move…READ CHAPTER FOR EPIC DETAILS.
The Bixlow and Fried vs RustyRose fight also had a very awesome finish. RustyRose used his own ultimate attack, the Tower of Dingir (remember that one?) to “crash all the foolish fairies” and it was working until Bixlow used his Unavoidable Figure Eyes to control Elfman and knock him over breaking the spell. Fried finishes things up nicely with his Yami no Ecriture: Destruction. READ CHAPTER FOR MORE AMAZING DETAILS! Then, at last, we make full circle back to where Ultear and Gray are talking. The bitch, I mean Ultear is begging Gray to defeat Hades…using Iced Shell!!!!???? What will Gray decide?!
Likes: Whoa, I mean, what’s not to love? This chapter touched on everything. We had our little talking moment, we had our epic fighting moment (two of em actually) and then we had our bombshell “what the eff is up with this bitch?” moment. Everything was really well done. The talk between Erza and Azuma was kept short and to the point, moreover we finally got back to learning what was behind Grimoire Heart’s psychotic movement…(if that’s really the real reason). Even though there were two fights squeezed into that small space, it didn’t feel rushed at all (maybe because we’ve been dealing with em for a while), it nicely climaxed, everything was nice and clear. Now normally I don’t like when fights are interwoven and mixed up and all that complicated stuff because I think it kills the fluidity and feel of the moment, however, Hiro did it so masterfully this time that I actually preferred it this way. They were mixed together perfectly in a way that nicely tied in both climaxes in a way that just left you completely breathless. As for Ultear’s little plea to Gray with tears in her eyes or whatever, that wicked, conniving bitch, I don’t know what she’s up to but if Gray dares listen to that psycho…let’s just say my hatred for her just came surging for anew topping off all the emotions I felt in this chapter and leaving me quite satisfied.
Dislikes: Ultear MUST die. But as for actual dislikes….Not sure if any of those exist. Everything was just well layered. Normally chapters with this much content make me dizzy but Hiro-chan must be working on his format or whatever because, again, I think this was masterfully done.
More Chapter Ratings:
§eraph: 8.5/10 – Well, kudos to Mashima for another powerful chapter. We all knew that the guild would suddenly become awesome again and beat all the bad guys with renewed vigor. Even so, everything was marvellously executed. I am thoroughly satisfied. All hail Gildarts, Bixlow and Freid. Gray is making me nervous. Why are all these villains psychotic grinning imbeciles? *sigh* Looking forward to chapter 239 with great anticipation. This arc is freaking amazing. Recognize!
Random Rant Time: I’m going to rant about happy things…instead of that…thing. Gildarts is a GOD. Period. He just doesn’t give a crap. He took on a black hole…do you guys realise what that really means? And not only did he take it on, he BROKE a black hole. Who the hell breaks a black hole?!…besides Chuck Norris :p and then his line to Bluenote “If you want to fly that badly, shall I send you flying?”…then the look on his face as he says that most awesome move name and basically sends Bluenote flying into the stratosphere, the general look on his face, once more…I mean, he is just amazing in every way. I sorta secretly love him (well not so secretly). He is just too hype…especially when he’s angry apparently.
Beware…he will bite you…and crush you…and pound you…and demolish you…but he’s truly a sweetheart and hilarious guy otherwise 😀 Just don’t mess with his guild.
