Mangaka: Hiro Mashima Title: Frozen Spirit Rating: 8/10
Synopsis: Continuing from last week, Gray pronounces that he will accept Ultear’s proposition and defeat Hades using Iced Shell :O Ultear tries to thank him but Gray stops her saying that he’s only doing it for the guild (at this point I’m screaming at my computer screen “WHAT ARE YOU DOING GRAY!!!). We switch locations to the Guild’s base where Natsu and the rest finally reach, only to see the utter disaster that the previous battles had left in their wake. Wendy tries to heal them but she’s all tuckered out from before.
We then switch back to Ultear’s location where she meets up with Meredy. Meredy apologises for not finding Gray but Ultear tells her not to worry about him, saying that he isn’t the enemy, but rather a scapegoat. We go through a little flash back with her and Gray, and then when we come out of it what are we greeted by? Super Psycho Ultear! Who finally lets down her mask of sanity and reveals her true insane self and plans, cackling at the sky with a really scary look in her eyes and everything. She then insists that she won’t hand Zeref over to anyone (she really scares me you know…how just…demented she is? She needs to be put down…no institution can saver her.) Anyway, she and Meredy begin to walk off, when they stumble upon Lluvia who is still knocked out. Ultear moves to kill her in order to make Gray suffer if he magically survives somehow when at that very moment…GRAY pops out and saves Lluvia! He does have common sense after all and thankfully didn’t believe a word the lying bitch. They prepare to fight each other. Ultear tells Gray that he has chosen to die in the “cruelest way” and, in my favourite line EVER, Gray simply says “Bring it on you delinquent bitch. I’ll teach you manners in place of our mother.” (iLoled so hard). In full pyscho mode (I never thought Ultear could look THAT hideous) Ultear warns Gray that she is the strongest of the Seven Kin and that he would be no match for her. Once more, I died of laughter, when Gray simply bitch punches her to the ground in place of a retort. Make sure you READ THE CHAPTER for epic details!!
Likes: GRAY!!!! Gray completely PWNED in this chapter. I was so pleased. My pleasure was probably heightened because he was up against that thing that I don’t like. He was just awesome, the way he figured out Ultear, the way he was lying/following her to see what she was really up to, the way he just came in soo fresh and clean to save my sexy Lluvia, the way he completely smacked down Ultear in the end. **sigh**. Next chapter Gray vs. Ultear should be amazing. Don’t disappoint!!!!
Dislikes: Aside for that thing disguising as a woman…there’s not really anything I didn’t even dislike the flashback. It contained a few ideas that we already saw before but as it only took up two pages and was really brief and to the point, I can forgive it, and it did have its place and came in at a really good moment. It was well done so it’s not really a dislike…just an observation really.
More Chapter Ratings:
§eraph: 8/10 Gray’s actions have pleased me immensely. Should he have fallen for the lies of the evil one I would have erased him from memory. I shall feel a euphoric sense of schadenfreude when that demonic/crackpot excuse of a woman DIES. Good job Mashima-sensei, I was totally into this chap.
Random Rant Time: Hands together for Gray Fullbuster! This is all about him baby!! So, so, SO happy with this chapter. So…Am I the only one distracted by his body and wishing he’d have MORE shirt-off time? fufufu
