Mangaka: Nakamura Yoshiki Title: Black Breath Rating: 7/10
Synopsis: First of all, I was totally supposed to review Chapter 177, but I didn’t find the chapter tooo amazing (except for the end) and laziness also hit me, so yeah, apologies to those who were looking forward to that.
So, if you did read Chapter 177, you’d know that Ren-chan wears contacts…to hide the fact that his eyes are some extremely light colour (black and white doesn’t give you more than that) which hints at some mixed blood possibilities. The scandal! We also get a glimpse at a younger, fiercer Ren who was being beat up because of his looks, and, along with the strange eyes he had lighter coloured hair too. However all those flashbacks soon pass. He then walks out to join the rest of the cast (amidst a slight angle change where we see Taira contemplating the fact that Ren is a very dangerous person) in full badass, “i’ll kill you, mofo” gear. You know, looking all Grim Reaper-y and shit while everyone stands in awe, fear and something akin to horror.
Blah blah blah, they do a practice run through of this big fight scene between Ren and Taira (as it will appear in the movie). More blah blah blah, Taira gets kinda irritated because Ren (or rather Cain) is still pretending that he doesn’t know Japanese which starts another semi confrontation with Ren subtly insulting Taira (much to his irritation). Blah blah blah again (Seriously, there’s a lot of talking and action that I don’t feel like going through so READ THE CHAPTER, lazy mofos!)
There’s this REALLY cute thing going on momentarily between Ren and Kyoko after that (mini squeal!) and then we work our way up to the official run through of the scene that they had practised earlier. Taira gets irritated because Ren is being Ren and is not going with what they ran through in practice. So, in response he tosses aside the casted weapon and rushes towards Ren epicly, fist ever ready!!! (It was a really cool that last page, I must admit).
Likes: Ren and Kyoko’s moment, Taira’s epic charge at Ren (seriously, the fire in his eyes and on his fist (not really but still, he looked pretty kickass)
Dislikes: I think they overdid it just a bit with Ren. I mean, like his outfit = too much. I understand he needs to look psycho but the whole ripped edge thing was just a bit too much. It could’ve just been a straight, long hooded jacket I think. Right now it seems like if they’re trying to hard. Though, I do suppose they are shooting a movie. Also, the way everyone always reacts to how “scary” he is -_-. Overkill. We get it. We’ve gotten it since Day 1. Ren is an amazing character, he always gets sooo into character it’s chilling. We don’t need to go through this every single role that he plays. It honestly annoys me a bit sometimes. It’s repetitive and it takes up precious space that could be used for other cool stuff, especially since we don’t get chapters too often. All this talking and musing needs to cease. Moreover, I found Taira acting up just a tad bit too much. Calm down. It’s making you look like an insecure, whiny little prick. Life’s not all about you -_-. Nonetheless, a fairly solid chapter. I really want to know more about Ren’s background :\. He’s been a mystery for FOREVER.
Random Rant Time: (reference pic below) 😐 Why Yes, O Great Ren-sama…I would LOVE to join you. In fact, I would kill someone just to join you (Please don’t kill anyone people, that is wrong and we do not condone that -_-) Who else is with me? If you’re not into Ren then please tell me who’s your favourite Skip Beat! guy? Leave me a comment below to let me know!
